[NEWS] Steam (Early Access) Release on Jan. 22

Image

After going through a couple of heavy testing sessions, we now defined the final release date for the beta: TOXIKK will hit Steam's Early Access program on January, 22. We had to expand our original beta release estimation (Q4/2014) by three weeks, as the final alpha stage revealed some hard to replicate network issues and some UI problems that require a bit more attention, than what we could have achieved before this month is over. And also..., there's Xmas ;)

The TOXIKK Pro-League Founders' Program (25% discounted pre-orders, forum badges, in-game founders' skins etc.) will end on January, 10. From that date on, we'll no longer offer the game through our website. Full price purchases will be possible through Steam only, starting January 22.

We value our community and are grateful for all the support we received from the people who have pre-ordered the game through the Pro-League Founder's Program. All that extra cash went straight into polishing the game to a point, where we believe that you'll have a lot of fun with TOXIKK, right from its first day on Steam.

Thank you all for your support and see you in-game!

Re: MircoTransactions.

Being totally fed up with all the so called Free-to-Play titles, way too complex shooters and an FPS genre that, to us, had totally lost its charme, the "No Bullshit!" approach really is a big part of the philosophy behind TOXIKK. The game not only goes back to the roots with its mechanics, but also in how it is brought to the players. Pay once, get the FULL game. No strings attached, no micro-transaction. The "No Bullshit" mentality not only applies to the game's set of features, but also to its business model. It's almost an ideology.

This may sound idealistic and naive... (maybe even unbelievable in a world where the term monetization has become a top priority for most game releases), but we didn't start TOXIKK to become filthy rich, but because we love working on this game. We love to design every little detail, tweak it, re-balance it... working on it until it feels right to us. We felt that there was a need for a game like this and we only hoped to find enough people who felt like us, so we could at least make a living of it.

We started the project back in 2012... and back then, nobody would have guessed that there would be a new UT anytime soon or that there would even be a general hype for old-school inspired arena FPS games. It was a HUGE risk back then and everybody who knew that we're working on this called us nuts. But we believed in it... and if you'll have only half the fun playing TOXIKK that we had (and still have) making it, you're in for a great time.

Now it's late 2014... and fortunately things don't look that grim anymore for the comeback of classic Arena-FPS. But no matter what, we want to stay true to the game's original premise: No Bullshit... No Micro Transactions!

Closed Beta Release Date Meeting

As many of you've asked for more transparency about what's going on at KK, here's a bit of insight about our current plannings and proceedings: Up to Wednesday, we'll run multiple heavy testing sessions with the goal of defining the final amount of polishing, fixes etc. needed for the closed beta (early access) release. The good news is, that everything seems to run quite stable already and we have a blast playing the game. :)

Once we got "the final list" nailed down, we'll then sit down and decide over the release date of the closed beta.

Expect an announcement with the final release date for the closed beta within this week.

Re: How Much of the Game will we be Beta Testing?

BlackAdder wrote:The wording on the "7 facts" and the "maps" pages seems to indicate that it will be an effective limit. This seems to be consistent with the "small to medium" size of the "classic" maps.

This is quite a complex matter, i.e. there's more to it than what one would suspect at a first glance. Originally, we wanted to handle this with strict player limits per map (8 for classic, 16 for massive). However, this approach collided with freely configurable servers. It also caused problems when defining map cycles. E.g. if 16 players have a match on a massive map and the next map in the rotation is a classic map, you cannot simply auto-kick 8 players (well, you could, but nobody would be happy with such a system).

So, we switched it over to "recommendations". We recommend to create cycles with either massive or classic maps, but if you feel like you want to go on a spam-frag within your map cycle (i.e. a having up to sixteen players in a map that was designed for eight), you now can do so with the new system. But on official servers you'll only find either map cycles for up to 16 players (massive maps only) or classic map cycles for up to 8 players.

The original system would also have caused problems and bizarre restrictions for mods. So, after having put quite some work into a system that restricted the player limits per map, at some point we decided to simply drop that in favor of a more flexible design. Also, some of the classic maps might still work okay with up to 9 or 10 players. So, if you're running a single-map server you may want to optimize the player limit to your personal preferences.

Re: Disappointment

Bossy wrote:Is any one else extremely disappointed with Reaktor right now. Like they are releasing merch but they don't even have a playable game to the public OR any sort of information as to when it will be available. They really messed up with this one and it's a shame to see because I had really high hopes for this game.

Plus: It's not like we're holding back TOXIKK to twit our community. We want to avoid unnecessary frustration and/or a bad first impression. To us, early access translates to closed beta... not to: "We'll serve you a rough tech prototype and then start the real development." (although this seems to be the en-vogue way for other developers, we did not choose that path).

Recommendations for US hosting partners?

We are in talks with various US providers about the server hosting, but with no US residents on the team, we're having a hard time comparing prices and we also don't have any real experience regarding the reliability of these potential partners.

That's why we like to know, if any US residents of the community might be able to give recommendations, based on their personal experience with a specific provider.

We need Windows machines, to be totally configurable via remote consoles (without restirctions).

Re: ....is it time?

@Mua Dib: I said that this GAME doesn't survive on its hype, but will grow on the fun people have playing it. I'm talking about the game and its future, you're talking about current community expectations. See the difference?

tl/dr: We value our community and we're grateful for the trust and support we received from the Pro League founders so far. In return, we want to deliver the best experience we can.

Re: NEWS: Upgrading your Founders' Package

gl3nnium wrote:is there a good deal going for me to upgrade from headshot to Amok or Godlike so I can get at least three other members of the clan going from day one in the Closed Beta and then the full game.

We are well aware of the fact that we need to have official servers in Oceania and we're currently talking to providers. However, we do not offer "special deals" at this point, as it would be unfair towards other community members who simply upgraded to higher packages or simply bought them in the shop. You can simply upgrade your Headshot package to an AMOKK package (where you get 4 keys for the price of three individually purchased keys - which is a good deal already IMO) and have the price you paid for your L2 package refunded.

About special support for groups in specific territories and/or allowing them to host official servers: Please get back to me about this once we are a good portion into the closed beta. We're a small team and don't have the capacity to look into this while we're working hard to launch the general beta.
