toxikk freezes spontaneously

  • Hi there !

    I'm new with Toxikk, i bought the full version and i like it very much, but it doesn't run stable.

    I have freezes at different situations, sometimes at the start menue, sometimes during game and i can not reproduze it by force. It comes spontaneously at any time.

    My computer runs on an AMD Athlon 64X2 6000+ (old but still good), 6GB RAM, GF GTX285, 700 Watt power supply and win7 prof. 64bit

    i tried new graphic drivers, old graphic drivers, every resolution and every button, today i reinstalled it, but nothing helps. sometimes it freezes with artefacts and one time when i exit Toxikk, windows told me, it reloaded the graphic driver.

    Where is the fault ?

  • Please make sure that under options / video the setting for "texture streaming" is set to disabled. if endabled, it can crash randomly.
    The other known source of random crashes are overclocked cpu and/or gpu, which become unstable under heavy load. If you are overclocking, try if the game runs stable with factory clock settings.

  • Thank you for response

    Texture streaming is disabled. Nothing on my Computer is overclocked. I have tested my GPU with Furmark, it runs stable, 90 degrees celcius after 7 minutes at 97% GPU load. Toxikk produces about 60% GPU load. Every other game works without problems

    How can i create a log file ?

  • In the steam launch options for toxikk, add "-forceLogFlush" to make sure the log file isn't truncated when the game crashes.
    You can also add "-log" to see the log output in a separate window, but regardless of that option the log is written to c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\TOXIKK\UDKGame\Logs\Launch.log.

    You could try to delete all the * .ini files in UDKGame\Config, then use steam's "verify integrity of game cache" to restore the files. You'll have to redo you config if you do this. There have been a few reports where this procedure seemed to have fixed crashes.

    However, freezes usually indicate a thermal problem with the GFX card, but 90°C is in the normal range for your GFX card, throttling should start at 105°C. (Artifacts happen when you alt+tab out of fullscreen. that's "normal")
    I'm not sure if only 66% GPU utilization is because of thermal throttling or because the CPU doesn't feed it with enough work. My GTX 970 has 99% load.

    You could try running TOXIKK with your PC case open and make sure it has enough cool air (e.g. it's not trapped under a desk standing in front of a radiator).

  • ok, GPU load is near 100%, temperature below 80°c at freeze. i deleted all the.ini, steam restored them.

  • ich versuche es jetzt einfach mal auf deutsch, da kann ich mich besser ausdrücken, immerhin handelt es sich um ein Spiel aus einer deutschen Softwareschmiede. Findet sich eine Lösung meines Problems, kann man diese ja auch noch auf englisch posten, um sie allen zugänglich zu machen.

    Erstmal möchte ich loswerden, dafür das es sich hier um den offiziellen Support handelt, finde ich die Unterstützung eher mässig. Ich kaufe ein Spiel, das knapp über minimum Anforderungen läuft, aber leider nicht stabil und sogar teilweise schon im Menü abschmiert. Im Menü glaube ich nicht an einen vermuteten Grafikkartendefekt, zumal die Karte in allen anderen Spielen und auch in Benchmarks läuft.

    Das von mir gepostete logfile kann ich selbst nicht auswerten, ich bekomme keine Antwort was der Fehler laut logfile sein könnte, geschweige denn ob es überhaupt das richtige file ist.
    Ich fühle mich gerade ein wenig alleine gelassen mit meinem Problem. Und obwohl ich das Spiel über Steam gekauft habe, kann ich über Steam nichteinmal eine Erstattung veranlassen. Somit unterstütze ich den Spielehersteller, der mich nicht unterstützen möchte...

    Welche Informationen zu meinem System würden noch hilfreich sein um meinem Problem auf die Spur zu kommen ?

  • It's the correct log file.
    At the end there are a 10 lines "Timed out while waiting for GPU to catch up. (500 ms)".
    This means your GPU has not been responding for 5 seconds, which indicates a problem with your gfx card or driver.
    I ran TOXIKK on a Radeon HD 6770, a GTX 760 and a GTX 970 and never had this particular problem.
    So far all the reported crashes have been caused by either "texture streaming: enabled" or by overclocked cpu/gpus.
    I can fully understand your frustration, but I doubt there is anything the devs can do when the problem only occurs on 1 computer.

    One guy suggests to underclock the GPU. Some are factory overclocked and may not run stable in all games.

  • Mit dieser Antwort kann ich was anfangen. Ich versuche leihweise eine andere Karte zu bekommen um diese als Fehler auszuschliessen oder zu bestätigen, runtertakten weiß ich nicht, bleibt aber eine Option.

  • Maybe it was the memory clock. I reduced it to 1190 mHz on my GTX285 with MSI Afterburner and it runs stable at the moment.
    I think this could be the fault. Memory is always used near 100% in Toxikk. In Furmark it is only used around 20%.
