Virtual Reality Integration

  • I would really like to see some sort of virtual reality integration into Toxikk. I'm not asking it to be a required feature or something that is main priority, but just to have it in this would be really cool. Maybe make virtual reality servers only so that people that have the Oculus or Morpheous could use them together. Just an idea.

  • That would be really cool! I don't have any of the equipment, and I assume that very few have acces to them but it would be pretty funny.

  • It would be cool, but good luck getting this to work comfortably with something as fast as an arena shooter. I suspect we're still a ways from being able to just throw VR into any given game.

  • Well Toxikk is PC only, so Morpheus is out for a start. And as for Oculus, they explicitly say it is designed for sitting down - they are probably wary of lawsuits from people falling over and getting hurt.

    Sitting down means it will not feel right for games where you run around on foot, but sitting in a spaceship or vehicle will be OK. Games that have both, like Grand Theft Auto, will probably be borderline but fast FPS games like Toxikk will be difficult to navigate quickly without getting killed all the time.

    Other reasons include: there are zero people who own a consumer Oculus yet, hardly anyone will want that large treadmill thing, and Reakktor is a small studio with limited time.

  • Very unlikely. There are people using the Oculus in cs:go and they barely get any kills, in a arena shooter it's even worse. If we assume that this game is going to be like Quake or UT than you can totally forget about VR.

  • I could see using an Oculus Rift for turning your head, but not actually for aiming. It would give you more viewing flexibility, but you would still use mouse and keyboard for eveything else.

  • Hi! I also would really like to see some sort of virtual reality integration into Toxikk, and your idea inspires me. However, I don't have any of the equipment to conduct an experiment. Actually, why do we need a virtual reality?
