Railgun vs Falcon Sniper Rifle

  • I miss the railgun.

    Don't see it in Toxikk's arsenal of death.

    There's beauty in simplicity and the Railgun was raw mechanic that worked.

    AWP'ing and sniping in general evolved it to the next level but I'll always remember their primal origin, the railgun.

    Question is - will contemporary sniping ever fit the Arena FPS setting ?

    AWP in CS worked because they added additional mechanics into the weapon. They did that because player speed and jump height was vastly reduced so they had to raise the skill cap. Those 2 factors worked hand in hand making awping a phenomenon in shooter games from then on influencing almost every game that came after it.

    But Toxikk is jumping back into time where player speeds and jump height are back to UT-Quake days.

    Question begs. Will the Falcon Sniper Rifle feel better than Railing people on to walls oldskool ?

  • The Stingray's secondary fire? That'll do 'm in quite good, in one shot, if aimed well...

  • I'm under the impression that Stingray's secondary is still hitscan ala Lightning.

  • Sure, but I'm just interested in the damage done (without taking into account the animation or physical effect on the target).

    Sounds to me like only headshots would be an instant kill, the AWP on the other hand kills you right about everywhere instantly.
    I assume from this that it will be a viable weapon, but it won't be as popular as the AWP, especially in a fast paced enviroment.

  • Which is why the railgun worked so well in Arena FPS. The mechanic fits.

    Competitive 1vs1 is the way it is because of the railgun. I'd imagine controlling pickups wouldn't be so important if it weren't for the rail's ability to one shot you without a decent stack.
